DIY: Chandelier Wall Art

Posted on April 02 2014

I found a beautiful painting at HomeGoods and fell in love with it but it was $150 and i wasn't sure if I was $150 in love.  I had to think about it.  I went home and thought what if I could make it myself it didn't seem like it would be that hard (and I am definitely not artistically inclined). So I started googling all the items I would need and it didn't seem like it would cost me too much.  Luckily I got a really good Michaels coupon in my email so I took that as a sign and headed straight there!

Step 1: Things you need:
*
36" x 36" square canvas
*Black acrylic paint
*Gold acrylic paint
*Liquitex Gloss medium & varnish
*Paint brush
*White chandelier vinyl wall decal

Step 2:
*S
tart by painting the canvas.  Mix a small portion of the black paint with the gloss medium. (If you want the painting to look textured and three dimensional, let some of the white show through in some areas and thicker in other areas).

Step 3:
*After the paint drys, lay the decal on the painting. You should tape it down, to secure it's positioning.  Apply the decal as per the directions on package. To make sure it is extra secure on the canvas, paint a coat of gloss medium over the chandelier.

Step 4:
*To add a little extra glamour, add some gold brush strokes all around the canvas! And you are now an artist!
